The course

Three year Diploma in Hotel Management & Catering Technology (DHMCT)
Duration
The course duration shall be 3 academic years. Each academic year shall be divided into 2 semesters for professional excellence. The sixth semester shall consist of training in any of the hotel classified under three Star or above category for a period of 22 weeks at the end of which they will submit a training / project report.

The medium of instruction in all the theory and practical subjects shall be English. No candidate shall be eligible for diploma unless he/she has undergone the prescribed course of study for a period of 3 academic years (including practical training at hotel) in the institution and has passed the examination and fulfilled such conditions as have been prescribed therefore:

Number of Seats
There shall be a total of 60 seats for the course of which 50% shall be merit seats and rest management seats. Fees for both the categories will be the same. There won't be any capitation fee or donation on any account.

Eligibility F For or Admission
Any candidates who have passed Plus2/ PUC/ Std.XII or any examination declared equivalent thereto are eligible for admission for the course. In the case of candidates who have passed the qualifying examination in 2nd or more chances, five marks each will be de-rated in their rank for each chance.

Reservation 
The seats for the course on government merit will be distributed as per mandatory reservation principle as contemplated in GO (P) 208/66/Edn dt. 02-05-1966 as modified from time to time. The percentage breakup of merit seats as per mandatory reservation is as follows :

a) State merit - 65%

b) Socially and educationally backward classes (SEBC) - 25% (Ezhava - 9%, Muslim - 8%, Latin Catholic other than Anglo-Indian -2%, Other backward Christians - 1%Other backward Hindus - 5%)

c) Scheduled castes and scheduled tribes -10%
(Scheduled castes- 8%, Scheduled tribes- 2%)

Claim for mandatory reservation State merit.The seats under the state merit will be filled purely on merit basis irrespective of the category/ community in which the candidates are included. Claim for communal reservation under socially and economically backward classes.

Reservation to the socially and educationally backward classes will be In accordance with the provisions contained in GO (P) 208/66/Edn dt.02.05.1966 as amended from time to time.

a) Candidates belonging to socially and educationally backward classes as per GO (P) 208/66/Edn
dt.02.05.1966, whose annual family income ( i.e. annual income of all members of the family from all sources taken together) is upto 2.5 lakhs are eligible for reservation under this item.
Candidates belonging to the castes and communities mentioned in the Annexure to GO (P) 208/66/Edn dt.02.05.1966 only will be considered as Socially and educationally backward classes for the purpose of admission to reserved seats. Claims by candidates belonging to other communities and which are not included in the Annexure will be rejected even if certificates from the concerned revenue officers have been obtained and furnished along with the application form.

b) Candidates claiming reservation under SEBC quota such as Ezhava, Muslim, other backward Hindus, Latin Catholic other than Anglo Indian and other backward Christian should invariably produce both community and income certificate obtained from the concerned Village Officer.

Note :
Income from salary:  Salary excluding DA, HRA, Special Pay, Deputation Pay, TA, PTA and honorarium will be reckoned for calculating total income (GO (MS) No.192/85/RD dt.20.03.1985. 

c) Applicants claiming reservation under Latin Catholics other than Anglo Indian quota should produce a Community Certificate from the concerned Village Officer specifying that they belong to Latin Catholic other than Anglo Indian.

Claim for reservation under SC/ST quota: Candidates claiming reservation under scheduled castes / scheduled tribes quota should obtain the caste / community certificate from a Tahsildar without which the claim will not be considered.

General rules on mandatory reservations : The seat unavailed of by the scheduled caste candidates will go to the scheduled tribe candidates and vice versa. The seats unavailed of by the SC/ST candidates will be filled from other eligible community (OEC) candidates and the seats unavailed by the OEC will go to the open merit pool. If any seat in any reservation quota is left unavailed of by the candidates belonging to that particular category those seats will go to the open merit pool unless otherwise stated.

Financial assistance: Candidates belonging to scheduled casts/scheduled tribe categories can avail financial assistance by way of reimbursement from concerned state Governments (if available) for which the institution will issue certificates after receipt of fees in full.

Uniformand Tool kit: Students shall arrange themselves the college uniform and tool kit for kitchen as per specification for which the college can assist them or they can buy it from the college office as per availability. However, uniform and tool kit are compulsory.

Uniform (Minimum numbers) : Blazer - 1 No., white shirt - 2 Nos., black pant - 2 Nos., chef coat - 1 No., Chef pant - 1 No., apron - 1 No., lab coat - 1 No., chef scraf - 1 No, Napkin - 1 No., tie - 1 No., bow tie - 1 No. 

Examination: The course will follow the yearly pattern with examinations being held in March/April of each year. There will be supplementary examinations in October/November for the benefit of those candidates who have failed in the examination. Examination will held at the end of each academic year by the State Board of Technical Education and at the end of each semester by the institution. In addition there shall be two assessment tests one each in a semester conducted by the institution. These marks shall be recorded separately.

Internal Assessment Marks: A total of 1300 marks are allotted for internal assessment, 25 marks for each theory paper, 50 marks for each practical paper and 75 marks for industrial training and project report. This assessment mark will be based on tests, assignments, and attendance in the proportion 40% for tests, 40% for assignments and 20% for attendance. The performance of the students in practical classes, including presentation of records also will be counted for awarding internal assessment marks.

The eligibility for attending the examination shall be only for those students who have been on the roll of the institution during the period and have secured a minimum of 80% of the attendance.

In case of those students who for medical reasons could not obtain the above minimum attendance, the
Principal of concerned institution shall have the power to condone the shortage, provided the candidate has secured 65% of attendance for which the fees will be decided by the government.

No student who has scored less than 65% of attendance will be allowed to attend the examination under any circumstances. The minimum marks for a pass in the examinations shall be 40% in the end examination for theory and practical subjects. There will be no separate minimum for a pass in the internal assessment but the total marks for end examinations and internal assessments should not be less than 40% for a pass in each subject.

For the subject Industrial Training and project report a minimum of 40% is required for a pass.
In the mark list, the mark secured by the candidates in the internal assessment, semester examination and board examination will be shown separately.
